Bridal Dress Trends 2014
Lace
From L to R: Marchesa, Romona Keveza, Monique Lhuillier
Lace is all over the latest designer collections. It’s used as veil trim, skirt appliques as well as neckline decoration and sleeves. It’s laid over the opaque base or allows skin show through.
Beads
From L to R: Reem Acra, Oscar de la Renta, Kenneth Pool
Beads, rhinestones, and other kinds of embroidery decorate the wedding dresses 30’s style. There are sparkly dresses as well as the ones embroidered with fabric flowers and feathers.
Peplum
From L to R: Pronovias, Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta
Peplums and other structural layers make for intricate shapes and forms. There are classic peplums as well as more elaborate and intricate peplum-like details. They make for dramatic skirts that are often paired with draped tops and necks.
Unusual Trains
From L to R: Marchesa, Carolina Herrera, Ines Di Santo
Next year’s conventional dress trains won’t be seen on many designer frocks. They aren’t merely extensions of the dress but are statement structural elements. Marchesa and Carolina Herrera see the trains in lace while Ines Di Santo and Zuhair Murad added layers to their dresses’ skirts that make amazing trains.
Asymmetrical Hemlines
From L to R: Elizabeth Fillmore, Reem Acra, Heidi Elnora
Asymmetrical skirts were quite popular last year but now they made a wedding dress trend. There is so much drama in these frocks thanks to the contrast of lengths as well as textures though Heidi Elnora chose a smooth fabric to create an elegant more formal dress.
Short Dress
From L to R: Zuhair Murad, Pronovias, Monique Lhuillier
Short dresses range in designs and styles. You can choose from very short or of above knee length. There are more formal styles like in Monique Lhuillier’s collection as well as more flirty ones.
Focus on Back
From L to R: Ines Di Santo, Pronovias, Marchesa
Statement backs continue to be an important part of wedding gowns. They can be made in lace or feature beautiful appliques. Pronovias created a beautiful beaded dress with a sheer back decorated with a pattern outlined in beads.
Non-White Dresses
From L to R: Jenny Packham, Oscar de la Renta, Heidi Elnora
If you are an adventurous soul and want your wedding dress to be some other color rather than a traditional white designers made sure to offer different alternative options. Colored wedding dresses range in styles and silhouettes and come in beautiful beaige, pink, blue, and even in a beautiful colorful floral print.
As for the dress silhouettes, a column dress will be very popular but if you’re up for drama you will definitely find an abundance of ball and princess gowns in designer collections of Spring 2014.
