Vineyard Wedding in California
Vineyard Wedding in Sonoma, California

This wedding that took place in Sonoma, is unique: first of all, it was held in the vineyard, and second – it was a groom’s mother’s vineyard, where he grew. So, it is no wonder there was a vibe of intimacy and warmness throughout the entire day, which was expressed through touching details, warm smiles and lovely hugs.

The bride and the groom met eight years ago as both were the Stanford undergraduates and since then they didn’t part with each other.

Bride said:

Since then, we’ve chased each other around East Africa for election riots & safaris, across West Africa by motorbike, away from feisty monkeys in Bali, into cigar shops in Mexico City, & into the fog of San Francisco’s wild Ocean Beach neighborhood where we’ve lived together for three years. Last May, we decided we’d chase each other down the aisle.

From the beginning both of them knew that the wedding will be held in the groom’s mother’s vineyard in Sonoma, a place by Healdsburg. Nicolay (the groom) was raised in this location and even nowadays the couple tends to spend their vacations and holidays in this unique place. It was essential for the bride and groom to surround themselves with the closest people on this special day. Besides, they wanted to have a simple and playful wedding that will pass at ease with the delicious food, old seasoned wine and Northern California music.

The couple wanted to add a personal touch to their wedding ceremony. Since the groom is a big fan of surfing, he and his groomsmen floated across the lake on a raft with the huge wave background, while the music from Jurassic Park was playing. As for the bride’s entrance, she went down the aisle accompanied by her parents as the Stevie Wonder’s song“Signed, Sealed, Delivered” was played by Quinn Deveaux music band.

To pay a tribute to the bride’s Mexican roots, the future conjoints decided to include a lasso ceremony – the Mexican wedding tradition. Once the officiant, a bride’s uncle – federal judge of Texas, declared them a husband and wife, he fired a gun into the air three times and so did the guests with the toy guns. That definitely made this ceremony a remarkable and fun experience for the invited guests.

As for the reception, couple replaced the traditional table numbers with the names of the places that were meaningful for both of them. Bride’s aunt created Mexican candy spoons for each guest, while groom’s mother wonderfully wrapped small wine bottles that were used as wedding favors.
